What to wear for your summer 'mini' family photoshoot

Well going on this week’s weather - summer is most definitely here, well it was, then it rained again, a lot! How lovely is it though to have a cool 24 degree breeze through the house instead of a stale 38!!!

Anyway, the reliable British weather has done it to us again - the first of this year’s summer mini photoshoots scheduled for tomorrow have been postponed due to rain! De-ja-vu anyone? Any of you who came to last year’s family photoshoots will know that after 3 months of sun, our mini photoshoots (suitable for the whole family) were on the first day of rain too!

We’re jinxed … or hopefully not! Plenty of summer left to reschedule and there are still spaces so if you haven’t booked on yet, honestly we get some great family photos at mini sessions! Read on for more on what to expect, how we fit a photoshoot into 20 minutes and helpfully - what to wear!

You’ve booked in for a relaxing stroll down by the river with the added bonus of some beautiful family photos to remember the summer of 2019 taken by none other than our specialist baby and family photographer Vicki. Who - don’t forget - has two kids and oodles of experience when it comes to children’s photographs so whatever your worries - relax and be content in the knowledge, you are in capable hands and no 2 year old tantrum will throw off this family photographer! You know which ones will need to be bribed with an ice-cream for smiles and which ones will insist on bringing a teddy bear the size of grandma so pack your bag with enough snacks to feed an army, bring spare clothes (just in case), breath (teddies are easy to airbrush) and enjoy your summer photoshoot…

First things first - what to wear to your summer mini photoshoot

A question we get asked all the time and our common answer is something you and your family are comfortable in. Style-wise opt for some summery prints or bright colours. You may want pictures where you or the kids are running about or where you are lifting them up so something comfortable is definitely a must. No shirt and tie required here! This website has some great mood boards showing co-coordinating outfits or see below for some of last year’s photos for inspiration...

What should you expect?

Mini sessions are just that - lasting around 20 minutes they are a taster of a full photoshoot. Vicki will take photos of you and your family in a relaxed and friendly style while you walk, chase, cuddle and have fun by the river. Suitable for children of all ages, parents and grandparents (pets are very welcome to join in too!) we can achieve a gallery of around 15-20 photos for you to choose from in that short time. If you were hoping to include extended family, cousins etc - get in touch and we can discuss your best options.

A 'what to expect' guide will be emailed to you before your photoshoot which will include details of the exact location of where to park, where to find your photographer and what to do in case of bad weather … as we mentioned earlier, useful this weekend! If you feel like making a day of it have a little look here for something to fill the rest of your time in Ely http://www.visitely.org.uk/whats-on/

What happens next?

Once we have giggled, the kids have no doubt smiled their cheesiest grins and then demanded the reward and you are already thinking where you might hang your new family photographs or perhaps who you could gift them to for birthdays and thank-yous for summer holiday childcare.. you want to know what’s next!

Within 7-10 days you will have an appointment in Ely with Vicki either at her home studio, or we do offer evening appointments where she will come to you (these are subject to availability). Your gorgeous gallery of photos will have been professionally edited and you will be able to choose your favourites.

Mini session product guides will be emailed to you in advance so you know exactly what to expect and most families come with an idea of whether you would like prints or digital images and sizing for frames and canvas prints.

There are no hidden costs, no pressurised sale - just a fun photoshoot and a great experience! Check out our Google reviews to see what others think…

Now all that remains is for you to somehow trick the kids into sleeping soundly the night before your mini session....And now you’re thinking the likelihood of that is directly equivalent to the likelihood of them not using the precise time you’re on the telephone to sing their loudest version of the Paw Patrol theme tune. Cue: sleepover at Granny’s house.

Can’t make the dates but would love some holiday snaps whilst the sun is shining and the children are off school? You are welcome to book a full family photoshoot on a date of your choice (pending availability) or gather your friends and if there are 2 or more families interested, get in touch to enquire about another mini day!
